Kids Night Lights for Children Scared of the Dark
A night light for a child who is frightened of the dark is not the same product as a night light. The requirement is different, and the feature most guides recommend is the one you specifically do not want.

Avoid the sleep timer
Sleep timers are sold as a premium feature, and for an adult reading in bed they are genuinely useful — the light shuts off fifteen minutes after you have stopped paying attention, and nothing burns all night.
For a frightened child this is exactly backwards. The whole point is that the room is still lit at 3am when they half-wake. A light that switched itself off two hours ago has failed at the only job it was bought for, and you will hear about it.
What you want instead is long runtime at low brightness. The Bread Machine Night Light at €29.03 runs 120 hours on its lowest setting, which is roughly five days of all-night use per charge. It has a fifteen-minute timer as well, on a double click — simply do not use it.
The button-cell lights sidestep the question entirely. The Cartoon DIY Mini at €21.11 draws 0.06W and is rated for around 20,000 hours, which at a few minutes a night is effectively permanent.
The child needs to be able to switch it on alone
This is the feature that actually resolves the problem, and it is easy to overlook because it sounds trivial.
A child who wakes up frightened in a dark room has two options: find the light, or call for a parent. If the light needs a small switch located by touch, they will call for you. Every time.
Pat and touch switches fix this. There is no switch to find — you hit the object anywhere and it comes on.

Warm light, not white
Two of these state their colour temperature: both Bread Machine models are 3000K, which is warm white. The rest are described as warm rather than measured.
Warm light is the right choice for a bedroom at night, and cool white or blue-heavy light is the wrong one — it reads as daylight and is more stimulating at the exact moment you want the opposite. Several of these lights also offer RGB colour modes. Useful for play, not for sleeping. If the child wants the colour cycle on at bedtime, the light has become a toy rather than a solution.
It will be knocked off the table and taken to bed
Assume this. It is why silicone matters more than it looks like it should.

The Galaxy Resin and Wood at €105.59 is beautiful and is not the answer here — it is a mains-powered display object for an adult's shelf. It gives extremely well as a wedding or anniversary present. It is not for a scared four-year-old.
Three things to check before ordering
1. The Foldable Deer's colour is random
On the Foldable Deer & Puppy at €16 you choose the character but not the colour — it ships at random from a pastel range, so mint, butter yellow, blush or cream may arrive. Fine for yourself, awkward as a wrapped gift. The workaround is to order the fawn and the puppy together, because a pair reads as deliberate whatever turns up.
2. Not every "35 Characters" design has the colour mode
On the Silicone Pat range, the RGB and sound-reactive modes are not on all thirty-five designs. The option name tells you which. Worth thirty seconds if the colour is the reason you are buying — and among the pandas and ducks there is a durian, a crab, a fried egg yolk and something described only as a strange bird.
3. The alarm clock is not waterproof
The Silicone Cartoon Alarm Clock at €34 has a silicone shell that invites bathroom use. It has no water resistance. Wipe it with a damp cloth and keep it off the bathroom shelf.
Common questions
Should a night light stay on all night?
For a child who is frightened, generally yes — that is what it is for. Use the lowest brightness that works and a warm colour temperature. The lights here that run 100 to 120 hours on low are built for exactly this.
Is a rechargeable or a battery light better?
Rechargeable if it lives by the bed and gets nightly use. Button cell if you want it to work out of the box with no charging routine, or for a hallway where it runs for seconds at a time. The Cartoon DIY Mini arrives with its battery already fitted.
What brightness is right?
Low enough that you cannot read by it comfortably. Stepless dimming, as on both Bread Machine models, is more useful than three fixed levels — you can find the exact point where the room stops being dark without becoming lit.
Are the colour-changing modes a good idea at bedtime?
No. Use warm white for sleeping and save the colour cycle for playtime, or it becomes something to watch rather than something to be reassured by.
